To protect the Brazilian fields against new pests and diseases, it is absolutely necessary to keep control over the plants that enter Brazil from other countries. For this reason, they are kept in quarantine until chances for contagious diseases are ruled out.

IAC is home to one of the two quarantine quarters of Brazil for all types of plants, including transgenic plants. Its relevance is strategic also for its geographical location – close to the International Viracopos airport, in Campinas, and amid important roadways.
